From July 24 to 27, the National Biotechnology Research Park (NBRP) adopted the theme of "Protecting Mountains" for its exhibition, bringing together core facilities, co-exhibiting units, and resident/alumni companies to join forces at BioAsia-Taiwan 2025.
BloodScan Biotech Inc. recently won the Translation Award during the startup PITCH at the NBRP Demo Day. It is a biotechnology company dedicated to precision oncology, focusing on the innovation and application of liquid biopsy technology.
Founded by an R&D team from the University of Michigan, BloodScan has developed the Labyrinth One - Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) automated enrichment system, which can isolate high-purity live CTCs in just 15 minutes without the need for antibody labeling, thereby increasing the efficiency and accuracy of cancer research and diagnosis.
BloodScan points out that this technology utilizes its patented labyrinthine microfluidic technology to overcome the limitations of current CTC isolation methods, such as low recovery rates, high contamination, and cumbersome workflows. Unlike EpCAM-based systems that miss mesenchymal CTCs or size-based filtration methods that result in unstable purity, Labyrinth One has been clinically validated to capture all CTC phenotypes, with a recovery rate exceeding 95% and the ability to effectively remove 99.9999% of background blood cells.
BloodScan states that Labyrinth One has currently completed its Class I medical device registration with the FDA and plans to apply for Class II medical device certification. In the future, it will also apply for the EU CE mark to penetrate the liquid biopsy market and accelerate the implementation of CTC diagnostic technology in clinical settings.
